The two-story Greek Revival Upright dates to about 1838, the Wing to the 1860s, and a Queen Anne addition to about 1890.","why_significant":"The house is significant under Criterion C for architecture because it embodies the Upright and Wing house type. It also shows the blending of Greek Revival, Carpenter Gothic and Queen Anne styles over time. The nomination argues this combination is unique in Belvidere, since other local Upright and Wing houses have been altered or lost their detail.","narrative":"Located at 410 East Lincoln Avenue in Belvidere, this house grew in three stages. Seth S. Whitman, a Vermont-born minister, teacher and the town's first postmaster, bought the property in 1838 and built the two-story Greek Revival gable-front section using post and beam construction. During Ezra May's ownership, a one-and-a-half story Wing was added in the 1860s, with a Carpenter Gothic porch featuring lacy bargeboards. Around 1890, during the Lampert family's occupancy, Queen Anne style bays were added. The house keeps wide trim bands, return cornices, a fanlight, original doors, hand-hewn beams and many original interior features, in part because the Lampert family reportedly chose not to alter it. A summer kitchen with a well and pump also survives. The property was listed for its architecture. It represents the Upright and Wing form and combines three styles in a way the nomination describes as unique in Belvidere, where comparable houses have been altered or demolished.","period_of_significance":"circa 1838-circa 1890","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Other: Upright and Wing; Greek Revival; Carpenter Gothic; Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single-family dwelling; the summer kitchen outbuilding is currently used as an art studio and gallery. The house was locally landmarked by the City of Belvidere in 1988.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.113604-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/22/8917/28891722/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/05000870.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000870/5b8feec95e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000870/5b8feec95e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 2.5","author":"IvoShandor","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Belvidere_Il_Lampert_Wildflower_House4.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">IvoShandor</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 2.5</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Belvidere_Il_Lampert_Wildflower_House4.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28891722","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lampert-Wildflower_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6482403"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/boone-county/lampert-wildflower-house-05000870/"}
