It survives virtually unaltered, with original form, windows, paneling, flooring and bathroom tile intact. It also reflects the lifestyle of a prosperous industrial family in the early 20th century.","narrative":"Built in 1926 on a 1.34 acre lot in Columbus's Clintonville neighborhood, this sixteen-room Colonial Revival house was designed by architect Ray Sims for Richard Berry Jr., president of the family-run Berry Brothers Bolt Works. The frame house has cedar shake siding, a slate roof, a pedimented portico with Doric columns and a leaded glass fanlight, and an arcaded east terrace. It sits well back from East North Broadway, a street platted with unusually wide lots. Inside, the original oak floors, gumwood-paneled library, built-in closets and period bathroom tile remain. A small screened summer building and the original driveway survive on the grounds. The property was recognized for its architecture. It is a well-preserved example of Sims's residential work and of upper middle class Colonial Revival design in the city. Its high integrity offers an authentic view of family life in early 20th century Columbus.","period_of_significance":"1926","architect_builder":"Ray Sims, AIA","architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revival: Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single-family residence; described as retaining a very high level of integrity, with only minor updates such as air conditioning, forced air heat and a refitted kitchen.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.522467-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/05000754.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000754/d02b79f789-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000754/d02b79f789-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Wdzinc","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Columbus_ohio_richard_berry_jr_house.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Wdzinc</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Columbus_ohio_richard_berry_jr_house.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"10000454","name":"East North Broadway Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/east-north-broadway-historic-district-10000454/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988314","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Berry_Jr._House_(Columbus,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q96401872"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/berry-richard-jr-house-05000754/"}
