It also reflects commerce, having housed brickyard workers and other travelers during the heyday of the nearby Cary brickyard. It shows the better living conditions of some early twentieth-century European immigrants in the Hudson Valley.","narrative":"Built around 1900 on Ferry Road in the Hudson River hamlet of Nutten Hook, this two-story frame building began as a hotel and boarding house. It has a five-bay main facade, decorative shingled gable ends, brick chimneys and a rear service wing, and a small carriage barn stands on the property's east edge. Inside, a center hall and staircase are flanked by principal rooms, with a well-developed service area at the rear and eight small bedrooms upstairs. James Lynch, who owned the land from 1893, kept the hotel, which served mainly workers at the nearby Cary brickyard, along with railroad men, ice house workers and visiting brick buyers. Lynch sold it in 1928. After the brickyards closed, between 1935 and 1945, it became a single-family home. The building is valued as a well-preserved example of turn-of-the-century design and as evidence of the living conditions of immigrant industrial workers in the early twentieth century.","period_of_significance":"c. 1900 - c. 1935","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Now used as a single-family dwelling; it was formerly a hotel and boarding house.
