It has hosted plays, concerts, patriotic and commemorative events, blood drives and World War II civil defense activity, and has been a center of community life since it was built.","narrative":"Built in 1888 in the hamlet of Conesus, near the south end of Conesus Lake, this one-story wood-frame hall measures roughly 30 by 70 feet. It has a high false front with a bracketed cornice, novelty siding, and an original sheet-metal ventilator with an onion-dome profile. Inside, it keeps its raised stage, ticket booth, cloakroom, bead board walls and ceiling, and fir flooring. Local residents paid for construction by buying stock at thirty dollars per share. Over the decades the hall hosted hometown plays, concerts, basketball, roller skating, patriotic meetings, blood drives and World War II civil defense work. The town bought it in 1922 and added a basement in 1935, which the American Legion renovated in 1950. Since the 1980s it has housed town offices, town meetings, local court proceedings, Memorial Day observances and a food pantry. It is significant as an unaltered example of a small-town community hall and entertainment venue of its era.","period_of_significance":"1888-1954","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian / Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as the Conesus Town Hall and community gathering place, with town offices in the basement and the original stage, ticket booth, cloakroom and flooring retained.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.612757-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/05000567.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000567/80c172a247-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000567/80c172a247-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CONESUS_AMUSEMENT_HALL,_LIVINGSTON_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318627","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conesus_Amusement_Hall","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5159545"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/conesus-amusement-hall-05000567/"}
