It is also associated with General Edward F. Jones, a prominent local businessman and civic figure who served as New York's lieutenant governor. The interior retains lavish original finishes.","narrative":"Built on Binghamton's west side, this large Queen Anne residence at the end of Asbury Court once stood at the center of an estate developed by General Edward F. Jones. Jones founded the Jones Scale Works, became known for the slogan \"Jones of Binghamton, he pays the freight,\" held local civic offices, and served as New York's lieutenant governor from 1887 to 1891. The house is the only surviving feature of the estate. It has an irregular plan with cross gables, dormers, projecting bays, a five-sided tower, and mixed finishes of brick, shingle, half-timbering, board and batten, and slate. Inside, a three-flight chestnut stair with colored glass windows, nearly a dozen fireplaces, and original moldings and fixtures survive. The original wrap-around porch, porte cochere and carriage house are gone, and the surrounding land was subdivided. No architect is known, though the design compares well with work by Binghamton's leading firms. The house is undergoing restoration.","period_of_significance":"1883-1913","architect_builder":"Unknown; no architect identified","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Described as exceptionally intact and undergoing restoration; current function is single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.647808-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/05000020.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000020/dd77e3826c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/05000020/dd77e3826c-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Ammodramus","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gen._Edward_F._Jones_house_3.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ammodramus</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gen._Edward_F._Jones_house_3.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75316583","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gen._Edward_F._Jones_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5530792"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/broome-county/jones-gen-edward-f-house-05000020/"}
