It shows how local builders moved from settlement-era dwellings to more standardized nineteenth-century forms. It is also one of three early nineteenth-century Thompson family resources in the immediate area.","narrative":"On Route 302 south of Pine Bush, this ten-acre farmstead in the Town of Crawford centers on a farmhouse built between 1815 and 1822. It is a one-and-one-half story timber-frame house with a five-bay, center-hall plan, a rear summer kitchen ell, and stone foundations. Federal-style details include a fanlit-style entrance with sidelights, molded window crowns, quarter-round and half-round windows, and an elliptical arch dividing the hall. A Greek Revival porch and mantel were added around 1840, and a steep gable was added to the facade later in the century. The farm belonged to Andrew Thompson, one of three brothers who settled Thompson's Ridge, and it stayed in the family until 1911. The house is valued as a largely intact local interpretation of Federal design and as one of three related Thompson resources nearby. After neglect and a proposed demolition for a subdivision, local planning board action saved it, and restoration is underway.","period_of_significance":"c. 1815-c. 1875","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal; Mid-Nineteenth Century: Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The house suffered an extended period of neglect and was threatened with demolition; under new ownership it is undergoing a sensitive restoration.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.919769-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04001443.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001443/c388d669ac-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001443/c388d669ac-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"The original uploader was Daniel Case at English Wikipedia.","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Andrew_Thompson_Farmstead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">The original uploader was Daniel Case at English Wikipedia.</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Andrew_Thompson_Farmstead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320766","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Thompson_Farmstead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4758720"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/thompson-andrew-farmstead-04001443/"}
