The front section dates to about 1840 and a rear addition to about 1890.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is architecturally significant as an intact example of nineteenth-century domestic architecture in Pine Bush. It retains most of its original fabric and shows successive Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne-era and Colonial Revival changes. It is one of few resources in this part of the village that keeps notable integrity to the nineteenth century.","narrative":"This frame house on Maple Avenue (Route 302) in Pine Bush, Orange County, New York, was built about 1840 as a modest Greek Revival dwelling with a side-hall plan, double parlors and bedrooms above. Its original owner and builder are unknown. Around 1890, during the ownership of Cornelius and Arminda Falconer, a large rear addition added bedrooms, a kitchen and a dining room to serve summer boarders arriving by railroad. Smaller changes followed, including Italianate-style porch posts and a stair update about 1875, and Colonial Revival features such as the entrance porch and window surrounds about 1900. Clapboard siding, six-over-six windows, mantels and a black walnut stair railing survive. The property includes the house and a late nineteenth-century shed as contributing resources. A pool and a re-created barn are non-contributing. The house was listed for its architecture because it keeps much of its original fabric and shows how a rural village dwelling changed over several decades.","period_of_significance":"c. 1840-c. 1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival; Mid-19th Century: Greek Revival; Late Victorian: Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the property also includes a re-created barn used as an antique shop.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.151733-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04001442.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001442/2ff3009e91-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001442/2ff3009e91-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Original uploader was Daniel Case at en.wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Taylor-Corwin_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Original uploader was Daniel Case at en.wikipedia</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Taylor-Corwin_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320760","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor%E2%80%93Corwin_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7689835"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/taylor-corwin-house-04001442/"}
