Its multi-story decorative veranda provides most of its visual appeal. It housed visitors for more than half a century during the Catskills resort era and survives almost unchanged from 1908.","narrative":"Built in 1891 as the Hotel Jones, this three-story wood-frame hotel stands at 391 Main Street in East Branch, a small Delaware County hamlet in the western Catskills. George W. Jones developed it on farmland sold by the Miller family, placing it about one block from the railroad station, where the Ontario and Western and the Delaware and Northern lines met. It served business travelers and tourists drawn by fishing, hunting and scenery. John Huggler bought it in 1903 and renamed it Hotel Delaware. After a kitchen fire in 1908, the Hugglers rebuilt it within six months, deepening the building and raising capacity to thirty-eight rooms. It has a two-story veranda, clapboard siding and a center-hall plan with original plaster, wainscoting and moldings. It is listed as a well-preserved example of the modest railroad hotels typical of the region, valued for its recreation and transportation history and its architecture. It is now used as multiple-family housing.","period_of_significance":"1891-c1945","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"No style","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Current function is listed as multiple family residence; the form says it has suffered some deterioration but retains all character-defining features, and the owners are restoring it.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.662343-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04001342.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001342/6e9c4c1407-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001342/6e9c4c1407-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Vonsky87","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hotel_Delaware,_East_Branch,_NY.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Vonsky87</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hotel_Delaware,_East_Branch,_NY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317231","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Delaware","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5911420"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/delaware-county/hotel-delaware-04001342/"}
