The earliest part dates to about c. 1750 and it was expanded and remodeled about c. 1860.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is locally significant as an intact example of vernacular domestic architecture that combines eighteenth-century Georgian finishes with mid-nineteenth-century Picturesque elements. It is also tied to the Everett family, early land speculators and settlers who helped form and settle the Town of Goshen. James Everett served as Orange County Surrogate and reportedly kept a law office in the wing.","narrative":"Set back from South Street in the Village of Goshen, this frame house grew in two stages. A kitchen wing, probably the original one-room dwelling, dates to about c. 1750, and a four-bay main block followed soon after. Around c. 1860 the Young family raised the main block from one and a half stories to two and added Picturesque details, including a wraparound verandah with jig-sawn ornament and a turned stair newel. Inside, wrought iron hinges, wide plank floors and a Georgian mantel survive beside a marble Italianate mantel from the later work. The Everett family, early settlers and land speculators, are credited with building the house. James Everett, Orange County Surrogate from about 1779 to 1815, is said to have kept an office above the kitchen. Ownership passed to Thomas Wickham Bradner in 1830, and the Bradner and Young families lived there for three generations. The property also includes a smokehouse, a small barn, and a well with hand pump.","period_of_significance":"c. 1750- c. 1860","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial: Georgian; Mid 19th Century: Picturesque","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; a larger barn complex on the property is described as collapsing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.681113-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04001204.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001204/0b40462c9b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001204/0b40462c9b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Original uploader was Daniel Case at en.wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Everett-Bradner_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Original uploader was Daniel Case at en.wikipedia</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Everett-Bradner_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75320645","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everett-Bradner_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5416965"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/orange-county/everett-bradner-house-04001204/"}
