It holds several original faux bois concrete works by Dionicio Rodriguez, whose projects for Dr. Urrutia are believed to be his first work after arriving in San Antonio. It also reflects Urrutia's eclectic collecting of Mexican-themed statuary, tile benches and water features.","narrative":"Miraflores Park is a 4.5-acre garden on Hildebrand Avenue in San Antonio, along the east bank of the San Antonio River. It is all that remains of a private park created in the 1920s for Dr. Aureliano Urrutia, a surgeon who left Mexico during the 1910 revolution. The grounds hold about 30 sculptures and garden objects, including tile-covered benches, urns, statues of Mexican historical figures, a small guest house called Quinta Maria built in 1923, and several concrete works by Dionicio Rodriguez. Rodriguez's pieces imitate wood and rock: a hollow-tree gate, a fallen-tree bench, a log stairway, a palapa-roofed bench and a stalactite grotto. Canals, pools and a large fountain once tied the garden together, but only their structures survive. The garden is considered significant as an early twentieth-century sculpture garden and as a showcase for Rodriguez's art and landscape design.","period_of_significance":"c.1926","architect_builder":"Dionicio Rodriguez","architectural_style":"Other: Faux Bois Sculpture","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Many pieces need restoration, but the Rodriguez work is mostly in good condition. The tower, the faux rock fountain (demolished 2002) and the original water features are gone. The property is currently used as a park and for sculpture.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.405734-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/28/9683/40968328/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/04001176.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001176/6e9ddcf48e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001176/6e9ddcf48e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"SoylentPurple","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:MirafloresPark.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">SoylentPurple</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:MirafloresPark.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"11000513","name":"Brackenridge Park","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/texas/brackenridge-park-11000513/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968328","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miraflores_Park","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q109999887"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/bexar-county/miraflores-park-04001176/"}
