It housed a theater, long-running retail stores and a fraternal lodge, and retains both its c1950 Moderne exterior and early twentieth-century interior finishes upstairs.","narrative":"Standing at the corner of Main Street and Darbee Lane in Liberty, this wood-frame building dates to about 1890 and was built with a shop on the ground floor and a meeting hall above. Over more than a century it served as a dry goods store, the Lyric Theatre, a men's and boys' clothing store and the home of a fraternal lodge. The first floor became a theater before 1913, was damaged in that year's fire, and reopened in 1914 as the New Lyric Theatre, offering silent films and vaudeville. It later returned to retail use, and the Town and Country clothing store operated there for about fifty years. The most recent major exterior change was a c1950 Art Moderne façade, with a grid of red, yellow and blue panels and a neon sign. Upstairs, beaded-board walls, a coved-ceiling hall and hardwood floors survive from the early twentieth century. The building is recognized for its role in local commerce, recreation and architecture.","period_of_significance":"c1890-c1950","architect_builder":"unknown (the 1953 Art Moderne façade and first-floor retail space were designed by Louis J.
