The congregation dates to about 1794 and grew from the lay ministry of Abijah Peck. The cemetery holds burials from the early nineteenth century and shows regional funerary art.","narrative":"Clifton Park Center Baptist Church is a brick, gable-roofed meetinghouse built in 1837 on the north side of Clifton Park Center Road, surrounded on three sides by its cemetery. It is the second church on the site. The congregation traces to about 1794, when Revolutionary War veteran and weaver Abijah Peck moved to the area and founded a Baptist society. He was ordained in 1801, and the first, timber-framed meetinghouse followed on land he donated. The present building has a fieldstone foundation, locally made brick walls, a molded cornice with returns, and an interior with a balcony, wood pilasters and original open pews. It is described as a rare and largely intact example of vernacular Greek Revival church design in southern Saratoga County, now set among suburban development. The cemetery, begun about 1801, holds roughly 350 recorded burials, including Peck's grave behind the church, and illustrates early settlement and nineteenth-century gravestone styles.","period_of_significance":"1794-1892","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century Revivals/Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a religious facility, with the cemetery contributing to the property.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.080999-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04001055.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001055/971559a839-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04001055/971559a839-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Peter Flass","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clifton_Park_Center_Baptist_Church_and_Cemetery.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Flass</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clifton_Park_Center_Baptist_Church_and_Cemetery.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321560","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_Park_Center_Baptist_Church_and_Cemetery","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5133288"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/saratoga-county/clifton-park-center-baptist-church-and-cemetery-04001055/"}
