The house appears to have been built around an earlier vernacular farmhouse. It also retains a high degree of integrity after three generations of the Young family and later owners.","narrative":"Built around 1872 on a hilltop along Pinesbridge Road in the Town of New Castle, this three-story house combines a Second Empire form with Italianate details. Its flared mansard roof is covered in hexagonal slate laid in a pattern of gray with red and yellow medallions. Double brackets line the eaves, wraparound verandas shade the first floor, and double-height bay windows mark the south side. Inside, a three-foot-wide staircase rises openly to the third floor, and the parlor and living room have ornate plaster ceilings and carved mantelpieces. Doors and windows that barely fit their openings suggest the house was built around an older farmhouse. Three generations of the Young family lived here, moving from farming to commuting professions while selling off much of the original 36 acres. The property was sold in 1961 and has changed little since. Its architectural quality and intact condition are the basis for its listing.","period_of_significance":"c. 1872","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Second Empire","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single-family dwelling; the form describes a high degree of exterior and interior integrity with only minor alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.826093-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/04000876.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000876/2130febbf2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000876/2130febbf2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Young_House,_New_Castle,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Young_House,_New_Castle,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75323320","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Young_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6077357"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/westchester-county/young-isaac-house-04000876/"}
