It is a domestic residence on farmland.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is locally significant as an excellent example of Georgian architecture and of local stone and masonry building techniques. Its interior retains Federal woodwork added after a c.1793 fire, and it is described as one of the county's earliest extant five-bay, two-pile Georgian houses.","narrative":"Built around 1772 of local limestone and fieldstone in Williams Township, the Isaac Stout House is a two-and-one-half-story, five-bay, double-pile Georgian dwelling with a center hall and two rooms on each side. Isaac Stout, a farmer and the son of an immigrant from the Palatine region of Germany, was its first occupant. A fire around 1793 damaged the house, and the repairs introduced Federal woodwork, including punch-and-gouge mantels and an open staircase with carved florets. The house is regarded as an excellent example of Georgian architecture in the county. Its stonework, with cut-stone walls on the main façade and sandstone jack arches over the front windows, reflects masonry methods typical of the area. Comparable houses nearby, such as the Stephen Krumrine House and the John Knecht House, show related stone construction. The house also retains much of its original plan and interior features, and its rural setting remains largely intact.","period_of_significance":"c.1772-c.1800","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"COLONIAL/Georgian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Restored in 2001 with a new kitchen wing, hyphen and porch; occupied as a domestic residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:10:27.07906-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/04000834.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000834/b65ff51f7d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000834/b65ff51f7d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Shuvaev","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Stout_House_01.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Shuvaev</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Stout_House_01.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71998752","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Stout_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6077173"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/northampton-county/stout-isaac-house-04000834/"}
