It is significant for architecture, commerce, agriculture, community planning and transportation. It retains an intact railroad-influenced plan and many industrial buildings.","narrative":"Parrott is a small agricultural town in northern Terrell County, Georgia, laid out in a gridiron pattern along a railroad line and surrounded by farmland and pecan groves. The historic district covers homes with outbuildings, brick commercial buildings along Main and Railroad Streets, three churches, three cemeteries, and a group of cotton and peanut processing and storage buildings south of downtown. Resources date mainly from the 1890s to the 1920s, with some built into the 1950s. Notable buildings include the 1912 Classical Revival Pierce Exchange Bank, a circa 1907 stone-faced concrete block building, the railroad depot, and churches built in 1892, 1920 and 1943. The town was recognized for its architecture, which shows local adaptations of popular styles, and for its role as a trade, warehousing and shipping center for the surrounding area. John L. Parrott subdivided his land as the Columbus Southern Railroad arrived in 1890, shaping the plan that survives.","period_of_significance":"1889-1953","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival, Classical Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Commercial Style, Craftsman, Folk Victorian, English Vernacular Revival, and several vernacular house types","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Most resources remain in use as homes, shops, churches, and city hall; the depot serves as a visitors' center and local museum, and the municipal cemetery is still in use.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.558315-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/04000528.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000528/36b687c1c2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000528/36b687c1c2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Blastoids","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Parrot_Historic_District.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Blastoids</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Parrot_Historic_District.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209600","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141810074"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/terrell-county/parrott-historic-district-04000528/"}
