Both its exterior and its largely intact interiors retain a very high degree of integrity. The grounds also keep historic landscape features.","narrative":"Built in 1908 for Magdalena Zanone, this 2.5-story house at 1604 G Street in Eureka stands on part of the former McKenna's Pleasure Park, a picnic and amusement ground that operated from 1877 to 1886. Zanone, widow of a Mattole Valley cattle rancher, commissioned local builders Selby L. Maloy and A.C. Johnson, who modeled it on an earlier house but made it more elaborate. It features a round corner tower with an onion dome, scroll-cut bargeboards, colored glass windows, classical porch columns and dentil courses. Inside, redwood trim, pocket doors, original plaster walls and hardware survive. A garage and several historic landscape features, including mature trees and a stamped concrete retaining wall, also remain. The house is recognized as an outstanding example of late Queen Anne architecture in a community where the style flourished thanks to a strong local economy and abundant redwood. Its exceptional integrity, inside and out, supports that standing.","period_of_significance":"1908 C. 1910","architect_builder":"Selby L. Maloy & A.C.
