It embodies the design, craftsmanship and materials of Arts and Crafts residential architecture and retains integrity. Its combination of Craftsman form and heavy Oriental detailing stands out among more restrained examples in the city.","narrative":"Built in 1913 in Pasadena's Pasadena Heights Tract, this two-story Craftsman house sits on an elevated corner lot at Loma Vista Street and Hamilton Avenue, shaded by a large Sugar Pine. Its wood frame is sheathed in cedar shingles beneath low-pitched, intersecting gables with wide eaves and exposed rafter tails. A porch on massive, battered concrete piers trimmed with brick wraps around the west side, and casement windows are grouped in bands. What sets the house apart is its Oriental-influenced detail: upturned gable peaks, curved bracket and vergeboard ends, and a porch balustrade cut in a cloud lift pattern. The original garage matches the house in design and materials. Few exterior changes have been made, and the interior keeps oak floors, Douglas fir trim and a built-in office unit with a roll-out bed. The architect and builder are unknown. The house was recognized for architecture as a fine local example of Pasadena's Arts and Crafts residential design, combining Craftsman principles with distinctive Asian-inspired ornament.","period_of_significance":"1913","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th American Movements/Bungalow/Craftsman","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition with few exterior alterations and a high degree of architectural integrity; still used as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:29.524-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/04000323.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000323/f4d3ff31d4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000323/f4d3ff31d4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"TheCatalyst31","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_1487_Loma_Vista_Street.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">TheCatalyst31</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_1487_Loma_Vista_Street.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123857504","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_1487_Loma_Vista_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16995940"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/los-angeles-county/house-at-1487-loma-vista-street-04000323/"}
