It also documents the long record of the Beta Lambda chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma, whose members were active in campus honors, social life and service. The house is part of a multiple property listing on fraternity and sorority houses at the Urbana-Champaign campus.","narrative":"Located at the corner of South Lincoln Avenue and Ohio Street, just east of the University of Illinois campus, this sorority house was designed in 1928 by the Chicago firm Howard Shaw Associates. It is an asymmetrical, U-shaped, two-and-one-half story building in the English Revival style, built of rough ashlar limestone with Bedford stone window surrounds, casement windows, half-timbering, a steep asphalt-shingle roof with dormers, and a deeply recessed pointed-arch entrance. A stone coat of arms of the sorority marks the front, and a statue of Minerva stands at the northwest corner. Inside, a great hall, a living room with a carved stone fireplace, and an enclosed porch survive. A compatible yellow brick addition of 1958 sits at the rear, out of public view. The building is also tied to the Beta Lambda chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma, whose members earned scholastic honors and held campus leadership roles. It is one of several Greek houses along Lincoln Avenue.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Howard Shaw Associates","architectural_style":"Late 19th & 20th Century Revivals: English Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a sorority residence; a yellow brick addition was built at the rear in 1958 and some windows have been replaced.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:37.108664-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/61/8907/28890761/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/04000074.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000074/e88d433c0a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/04000074/e88d433c0a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0 us","author":"Dori","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KappaKappaGammaSororityHouse_Urbana_Illinois_4419.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Dori</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/us/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0 us</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KappaKappaGammaSororityHouse_Urbana_Illinois_4419.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28890761","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kappa_Kappa_Gamma_Sorority_House_(Urbana,_Illinois)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20710948"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/champaign-county/kappa-kappa-gamma-sorority-house-04000074/"}
