Mott and a 1906 reinforced concrete mill building abutting its north side, beside the Nepperhan River.","why_significant":"The property is tied to the Yonkers textile industry, especially the Alexander Smith Carpet Company. The 1852 building is argued to be an excellent and uncommon example of a mid-nineteenth century banked stone mill. The 1906 structure is cited as an early and intact reinforced concrete industrial building in Westchester County.","narrative":"Two linked mill buildings at 11-23 St. Casimir Avenue in Yonkers record more than a century of industry along the Nepperhan River. William P. Mott, a carpenter and builder, constructed the first in 1852 of coursed gray fieldstone, with a marble plaque naming him and the date. It first served as a cotton factory, then housed George B. Skinner's silk works for about three decades, and later was used by the Alexander Smith Carpet Company. In 1906 the Ferro Concrete Company of Baltimore added a large reinforced concrete building to its north, a 'daylight factory' with big windows between concrete columns. Carpet production in Yonkers ended in 1954, and later tenants included a laundry and other manufacturers. After falling into disrepair and suffering fires in the 1990s, the complex was converted into senior housing. It was listed for its link to the local textile industry, for the rare stone mill, and for the early concrete factory.","period_of_significance":"1852-1954","architect_builder":"Mott, William P.
