It is also tied to the Quaker settlement of eastern Dutchess County, and it has kept its historic acreage and rural landscape in continuous agricultural use for about two hundred years.","narrative":"Quaker Lane Farms is a 95-acre working farm on Ruskey Lane in eastern Hyde Park, Dutchess County, New York. Its five historic buildings include a one-and-one-half-story clapboard farmhouse begun around 1804, a heavy timber dairy barn, a carriage barn from about 1835, a corncrib and an outhouse. The Quaker Powell family settled the land in the late eighteenth century. They built a three-bay house that was enlarged to five bays between 1820 and 1830, and a Greek Revival doorway was added. The house keeps its Federal proportions, steep roof and exposed structural timbers. In the 1920s, Ernest and Gertrude Hatfield added Colonial Revival changes and dairy improvements, and their descendants still own the farm. The farm is notable for its architecture and for its link to the nearby Crum Elbow Meeting House and the Quaker settlement of the area. Fields, woodlots, wetlands and stone walls preserve the historic agricultural landscape, in an area now being suburbanized.","period_of_significance":"c. 1804 - c. 1930","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still a single-dwelling farm owned by the descendants of the Hatfield family, who have held it since 1920; the historic buildings are largely intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.88901-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03001303.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03001303/f2e6d1867a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03001303/f2e6d1867a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pksherpa","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Quaker_Lane_Farms_Barns_Hyde_Park_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pksherpa</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Quaker_Lane_Farms_Barns_Hyde_Park_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317444","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaker_Lane_Farms","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7268553"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/quaker-lane-farms-03001303/"}
