It is also presented as a representative early twentieth century reinforced concrete warehouse retaining its character-defining features.","narrative":"Built in 1917 as a three-story reinforced concrete warehouse on Radcliffe Street in Bristol Borough, the General Stores and Mold Loft Building was among the first structures completed at the Harriman Yard of the Merchant Shipbuilding Corporation. The yard was one of three prefabricated shipbuilding facilities the Emergency Fleet Corporation established during World War I to produce transport ships. Its mold loft, where full-size hull templates were laid out, was central to that prefabrication process. Around 1925 the Manhattan Soap Company acquired the building and used it as a warehouse until 1950 and beyond. Most other yard buildings were later demolished, leaving this building as the last major remnant of the shipyard. Its open floor plans, round concrete columns, and exposed framework reflect early twentieth century warehouse construction. The building was vacated in 2000 when the soap plant closed.","period_of_significance":"1917-1925","architect_builder":"Fred T.
