It has a front-gable form with a Greek Revival character.","why_significant":"The house is significant as an important example of Lockport's nineteenth-century domestic stone architecture. It is one of roughly seventy-five stone residences remaining in the city and retains its early massing, ashlar facade and Federal cornice. Its 1898 Neoclassical and Colonial Revival additions and its well-preserved tuckpointing, described as the best remaining in Lockport, add to its value.","narrative":"Built between 1835 and 1845 on Niagara Street in Lockport, this limestone house was the long-time family home of Isaac Dole, a stagecoach line operator who arrived from New Hampshire in 1833 and later served as a village trustee. The Dole family occupied it for about a century. The front-gable, two-and-one-half-story house has a narrow-course ashlar front of Gasport Limestone, rubble side walls, dressed quoins and a finely molded Federal cornice. In 1898 owner Allen M. Moore, a Dole grandson, remodeled it, adding an Ionic-columned porch, a tripartite leaded stair window and Colonial Revival interior trim. Tuckpointing, applied to imitate tooled ashlar, covers the exterior and is considered Lockport's best surviving example. The house is one of about seventy-five stone residences left in the city and was listed for its architecture, representing both early stone building and late nineteenth-century classical taste. A garage from the early twentieth century stands behind it.","period_of_significance":"1840-1932","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal/Neoclassical","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current function are both single-family dwelling; the tuckpointing is described as remarkably well preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.457833-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03000485.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000485/419ab0d295-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000485/419ab0d295-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog at English Wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dole_House_Jun_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog at English Wikipedia</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dole_House_Jun_09.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313943","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dole_House_(Lockport,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14706241"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/niagara-county/dole-house-03000485/"}
