It shows how a 1835 house was updated in the Italianate and later Eastlake styles. It retains a rare, well-preserved cellar kitchen and a high level of integrity. It is one of about seventy-five surviving stone residences in the city.","narrative":"Built in 1835 at 140 Pine Street in Lockport, this two-and-one-half-story house is made of Gasport limestone, with a rock-faced ashlar front and uncoursed rubble side walls. It was updated in the late 1850s with an entrance porch, a hip roof, wide eaves, scroll brackets and pendants in the Italianate manner. Around 1880 further changes added new entrance doors, Eastlake-style fireplace mantels and a frame second floor on the rear wing. Inside, the original room layout, plaster finishes and four-panel doors survive. A cellar kitchen with a cooking fireplace, crane and brick baking oven is a rare surviving example of its type. The house passed to Robert and Martha White in 1848 and stayed in the same family for 125 years. It is one of roughly seventy-five stone residences remaining in Lockport and is valued as a local landmark showing changing nineteenth-century taste.","period_of_significance":"1835-1880","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single-family dwelling, as it was historically; the interior is described as retaining a high degree of integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.850042-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03000484.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000484/1ae29db7cc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000484/1ae29db7cc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Mylockport","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WhitePoundHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Mylockport</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WhitePoundHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313967","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-Pound_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7994265"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/niagara-county/white-pound-house-03000484/"}
