It was built in the 1850s on a lot acquired by Marcus Stickney in 1836, and its porches were added in the early 1870s.","why_significant":"The house is significant under Criterion C as an important example of Lockport's mid-nineteenth-century stone domestic architecture. It is a good example of the gable-and-wing form with Italianate details and one of the more elaborate of about seventy-five surviving stone residences in the city. Its interior and exterior are well preserved, and its carriage block and hitching post are rare survivors.","narrative":"Built in the 1850s at 133 Lock Street in Lockport, this two-and-one-half-story house is made of gray Gasport limestone with red Medina sandstone sills and a watertable. It has a gable-and-wing form, with a front-gable main block and a lower south wing. Broadly projecting eaves, bracketed porches with chamfered posts, and tall narrow windows reflect the Italianate style, which the house adopted in the early 1870s. Inside, wide-shouldered Greek Revival trim, wide plank floors, and Renaissance Revival mantels survive. A limestone carriage block and an octagonal hitching post stand at the street. The land was acquired in 1836 by Marcus Stickney, and his son Washington Stickney owned it when the house was built. Later owners included attorney George Clinton Greene. The house is one of about seventy-five stone residences left in Lockport. It was listed for its refined masonry, decorative detail, and high level of integrity, which make it a local landmark.","period_of_significance":"1850s-1881","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling, with a high degree of interior and exterior integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.407094-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03000483.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000483/ffa56e2c02-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000483/ffa56e2c02-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stickney_House_Jun_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog (talk)</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stickney_House_Jun_09.JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"75001211","name":"Lockport Industrial District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/lockport-industrial-district-75001211/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313965","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stickney_House_(Lockport,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7616287"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/niagara-county/stickney-house-03000483/"}
