The builder is not named in the form.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is an intact example of Lockport's modest nineteenth-century domestic stone architecture under Criterion C. It shows the local type of an ashlar-faced front with uncoursed rubble secondary walls. It is also a rare survivor of the working-class stone cottages once common in the city's northern half.","narrative":"Built in the 1850s on Lockport's north side, this one-and-one-half-story house is made of Gasport Limestone. Its street front is dressed, regularly coursed ashlar with large sawed quoins, dressed lintels and sills, and six-over-six windows. The side and rear walls are uncoursed rubble finished with tuckpointing, a mortar treatment meant to imitate tooled ashlar, though weathering has removed much of it. A twentieth-century wood-frame wing and a garage are noncontributing. Inside, the plan centers on an open stair with an octagonal newel post, and nineteenth-century trim, plaster and two-panel doors survive. City directories show Patrick Maloney, a stone mason, living there by 1860, and his widow stayed until 1922. The house was listed because it represents the small, simple stone dwellings built by working and middle-class Lockport families between about 1830 and 1860, most of which have since been demolished, deteriorated or heavily altered.","period_of_significance":"1858-1922","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling; the form lists both historic and current function as domestic/single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.196151-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03000481.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000481/73c41ad2a3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000481/73c41ad2a3-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maloney_House_Jun_09.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog (talk)</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maloney_House_Jun_09.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313955","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maloney_House_(Lockport,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6744521"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/niagara-county/maloney-house-03000481/"}
