The church, parish house and endowment building form the only intact, contiguous collection of late-nineteenth-century architecture in the village, and the complex shows how churches took on wider community roles. It also has ties to individuals important in local and county history.","narrative":"Four buildings on a sloping 2.6-acre lot along the Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck make up this Episcopal church complex, built between 1884 and 1925. The centerpiece is a Gothic Revival church of rough-dressed brownstone with a slate roof, a square clock tower and a stone spiral stair in an octagonal turret. Beside it are a brick and half-timber parish house and chapel, a two-and-a-half-story endowment building completed in 1887, and the 1925 Tudor Revival Heathcote Hall, a community house. The Constable family funded the new church as a memorial to Henrietta Constable, who died in 1884. The church was modeled on an eleventh-century church in West Meon, England, and has stained glass by Clayton & Bell of London. The complex is valued as an intact, cohesive group showing how churches expanded to serve wider community needs, and as the village's only surviving contiguous collection of late-nineteenth-century architecture. Its landscaped grounds are also a rare open space on a busy highway.","period_of_significance":"1884 - 1925","architect_builder":"Jones, Bassett (architect of church)","architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century: Gothic Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in religious use; the church interior is described as virtually intact, while the endowment building's first floor has been heavily remodeled.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.732411-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/03000242.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000242/5f7b46a78a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/03000242/5f7b46a78a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mamaroneck_Church_in_New_York.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mamaroneck_Church_in_New_York.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75323247","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Thomas%27_Episcopal_Church_Complex_(Mamaroneck,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7591873"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/westchester-county/st-thomas-episcopal-church-complex-03000242/"}
