It is the last existing building directly tied to Warwick's railroad heritage as a railroad hamlet. The nomination also finds a high degree of historic integrity.","narrative":"Standing south of the CSX tracks in Warwick, in the Village of Clinton, this small brick tower once controlled rail traffic where the Baltimore & Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroads met. Measuring about 14 by 22 feet, it has two stories of wire-cut brick laid in running bond, with belt courses, glass-block windows on the first floor and one-over-one sash windows above that wrap around parts of the east and west sides so operators could watch trains. A metal stair on the south side reaches the upper door. The Pennsylvania Railroad replaced an earlier wooden tower with this one in 1930. The gable roof was added in the 1970s; a 1953 photograph shows it originally had a flat roof. Warwick once served over 100 trains a day and supplied coal, stone and sand to industry. After World War II, diesel engines and centralized traffic control reduced the need for the station. Most related buildings were razed by the late 1960s, leaving this tower as the last structure from Warwick's railroad era.","period_of_significance":"1930","architect_builder":"Pennsylvania Railroad","architectural_style":"Other: Interlocking Tower; Vernacular","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Vacant/not in use is listed as current use in the form, but the narrative says CSX owns it, uses the first floor to store crossing hardware and the second floor as office space.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.159097-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/02001516.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001516/9280fa19c8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001516/9280fa19c8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Kalej523","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Warwick_Interlocking_Tower_2955_S._First_St.,_Clinton,_OH.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Kalej523</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Warwick_Interlocking_Tower_2955_S._First_St.,_Clinton,_OH.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986344","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138714864"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/summit-county/warwick-interlocking-tower-02001516/"}
