It was later expanded in Colonial Revival style for Richard Reynolds Jr. of Reynolds Aluminum.","narrative":"Springdale is a brick farmhouse on 47.5 acres near Crozier in Goochland County, Virginia. Its two-and-a-half-story core was built around 1800, in the first quarter of the nineteenth century, and is built into a hillside over an English basement. The three-bay, side-hall house has a low gable roof, six-over-six windows, plaster interiors and wide plank floors. It is one of the few documented one-over-one-over-one houses in the county. Its plain cornice, simple front door and flat plastered window arches suggest it was built for a Quaker family, and the land descends from a patent held by Joseph Pleasants. Joseph Edwin Pleasants' family owned the house from 1846 to 1877. In 1960 Richard Reynolds Jr. bought it, and in 1965 designer Andrew Kidwell added a frame wing, enlarged the basement and built a garage, all in Colonial Revival style. The house is valued as a link to Goochland's Quaker past.","period_of_significance":"1877","architect_builder":"Andrew Kidwell (East addition, 1965)","architectural_style":"Federal; Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling; the form says the house looks much as it did in the Reynolds era, with a modern frame addition and a noncontributing garage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:00.677936-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/85/6809/41680985/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/02001490.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001490/252280bcd9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001490/252280bcd9-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Springdale_on_Cardwell_Road.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Springdale_on_Cardwell_Road.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41680985","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springdale_(Crozier,_Virginia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14713241"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/goochland-county/springdale-02001490/"}
