It is also significant in social history as the home of William Taylor (1848-1944), a Georgia-born Union soldier who returned home after the Civil War and lived as a respected community member.","narrative":"Built around 1913 in the small north Georgia town of Resaca, this one-and-one-half story frame house follows the central hall plan, with a side-gabled roof, three gabled dormers, a wrap-around front porch and a rear ell. Inside, the original stairway, many six-panel doors, mantels and tongue-and-groove walls and ceilings survive. The house was built for William Taylor, a grocer who had earlier run a gristmill and sawmill and served as postmaster. Born in 1848, Taylor served as a teenager with Union forces during the Civil War, then returned to Georgia and lived out his life in the community. In 1938 he traveled to Gettysburg for the 75th anniversary reunion of Blue and Gray veterans. He died in 1944. The house is valued locally as a well-preserved example of a common Georgia house type and as the home of a Union veteran who remained respected in his community. It now serves as Resaca's town hall.","period_of_significance":"c.1913-1944","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Other/Central Hall","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently serves as the town hall for the City of Resaca; a handicapped ramp was added to the rear porch and some doorways were rearranged.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.256049-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/02001414.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001414/e73e4c5460-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001414/e73e4c5460-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"CipherdE","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Taylor_House_Sept._21,_2019.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">CipherdE</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Taylor_House_Sept._21,_2019.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208454","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Taylor_House_(Resaca,_Georgia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8019217"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/gordon-county/taylor-william-house-02001414/"}
