It is also an intact example of Italianate architecture and an outstanding regional example of Catskill resort architecture. It is described as a reminder of the golden age of the Catskill resort era.","narrative":"Built in 1882 in the Ulster County hamlet of Pine Hill, this three-story Italianate hotel was one of fourteen hotels in the community, erected ten years after the railroad arrived. Its wood frame main block has a low hipped roof topped by a cupola, bracketed eaves, clapboard siding, a stone foundation and original two-over-two windows. A rear wing with guest rooms on either side of a central hall appears on a 1927 insurance map. The parlors keep their moldings and fine parquet flooring. By 1905, under the later name Wellington, it had 152 rooms, second in size only to the Rip Van Winkle hotel. The nomination values it as a rare survivor of the huge wooden resort hotels that shaped Catskill tourism and that fire and decay have mostly erased. It is also described as an intact example of Italianate design. The property is now vacant after decades of neglect.","period_of_significance":"1882","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed as vacant in the current function; the form refers to decades of neglect, though the building retains much original fabric.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.863903-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/02001399.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001399/ab4bada6ea-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001399/ab4bada6ea-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ulster_House_Hotel,_Pine_Hill,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ulster_House_Hotel,_Pine_Hill,_NY.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"12000513","name":"Pine Hill Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/pine-hill-historic-district-12000513/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322753","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulster_House_Hotel","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7879971"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/ulster-county/ulster-house-hotel-02001399/"}
