Architect Henry Hradilek's firm designed it with a terracotta front featuring rusticated piers, a Greek Meander cornice, fluted Corinthian pilasters and floral arches. It originally held a bank branch and stores, real estate offices and apartments. The building reflects the eastward movement of Cleveland's Hungarian community during the 1920s, when the Buckeye neighborhood was nicknamed the \"American Debrecen.\" Weizer sold more than 2,000 lots to fellow Hungarians in the area. It is the only surviving terracotta building on Buckeye Road, and its main elevations remain largely unaltered. A one-story brick addition was made around 1945. The building has been vacant since 1999, and rehabilitation was underway when it was listed.","period_of_significance":"1925 - 1952","architect_builder":"Henry Hradilek, Architect (Henry Hradilek Co.); Arthur Thomas, Contractor","architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals/Beaux Arts","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Used commercially and residentially until autumn 1999 and vacant since; being rehabilitated at the time of the form and expected to seek the Rehabilitation Tax Credit.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:06.887196-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/02001360.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001360/9dc01a957f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001360/9dc01a957f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Christopher Busta-Peck","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Weizer11801Buckeye.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Christopher Busta-Peck</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Weizer11801Buckeye.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"100010698","name":"Buckeye Commercial Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/buckeye-commercial-historic-district-100010698/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987666","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weizer_Building_(11801_Buckeye_Road,_Cleveland)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7980441"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/cuyahoga-county/weizer-building-02001360/"}
