It was one of very few CWA-built buildings in Mountain View. It also reflects local promotion of adobe construction and community fundraising by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.","narrative":"Mountain View Adobe is a one-story Spanish Revival community building at 157 Moffett Boulevard, completed in 1934. Roughly fifty-four feet square, it combines a poured concrete frame with adobe brick infill, stucco finish and a red clay tile roof over a large main hall flanked by auxiliary rooms. City Engineer Don Reinhoel designed it, tested adobe brick formulas at Stanford, and gave much of his spare time to the work. The project was funded by bonds from the Junior Chamber of Commerce and employed forty-five or more men through the Civil Works Administration, later the State Emergency Relief Administration, during the Depression. Lack of funds delayed the tile roof until 1935, when the community raised money for it. Over the years the building housed the recreation department and a senior nutrition program, was altered, and closed in 1987 under California's unreinforced masonry law. It has since been restored to its 1934 appearance and is used for meetings and social gatherings.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"City Engineer Don Reinhoel (designer); built with Junior Chamber of Commerce funding and CWA labor","architectural_style":"Spanish Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Restored to its 1934 appearance; current functions include meeting hall and clubhouse use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:27.865512-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/02001256.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001256/986ec1cd62-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001256/986ec1cd62-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Bobak Ha'Eri","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2009-0723-CA-MtnViewAdobe2.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bobak Ha'Eri</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2009-0723-CA-MtnViewAdobe2.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123861748","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_View_Adobe","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5773364"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/santa-clara-county/mountain-view-adobe-02001256/"}
