It also represents the area's agricultural history, including large-scale sheep and wool raising by John Miller and the Bissell brothers. The ice house is described as a rare rural Ohio survivor.","narrative":"Two miles north of New London, a farmstead on the west side of State Route 60 preserves eight decades of Ohio farm life. Its centerpiece is a two-story, wood-frame Greek Revival house built in 1845 for John Miller, a wealthy landowner and sawmill operator. The house keeps most of its original floor plan, heavy exterior trim, doors, hardware and interior woodwork, and later vinyl siding was laid to follow the historic detailing underneath. The property also includes a basement barn from 1825-1835 with later additions, a board-and-batten ice house from about 1870, a glazed tile barn and pump house from the 1910s, and a 1970s pole building that does not contribute. George Bissell, who bought the farm after the Millers, ran one of the township's largest sheep flocks. The farmstead is recognized for its agricultural history from 1845 to 1911 and for its well-preserved architecture. The lot now covers 9.68 acres.","period_of_significance":"1845-1911","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century, Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Current functions are listed as a single dwelling and agricultural outbuildings; the house is covered in vinyl and aluminum siding that articulates the original Greek Revival trim beneath.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.378185-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/02001058.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001058/bacc4bc644-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001058/bacc4bc644-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Miller-Bissell_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Miller-Bissell_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989403","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138374622"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/huron-county/miller-bissell-farmstead-02001058/"}
