It includes one contributing historic stone meat house.","why_significant":"The house shows 125 years of building history, combining a Federal-style original dwelling with a high-style Neo-Classical Revival addition. It was built by Abner Osburn, a physician from a prominent local family, and it later passed through the Osburn-Heaton family and then the Dear family, who ran it as a dairy farm. The property is also tied to the Woodgrove crossroads community.","narrative":"Woodgrove is a stone farmhouse on the east side of Woodgrove Road, just north of Round Hill in western Loudoun County, Virginia. It grew in three stages over about 125 years. Abner Osburn, a physician, built the first part around 1785: a five-bay Federal-style house with an attached kitchen wing and a large stone cooking hearth. A rear ell of darker, smaller fieldstone was added around 1840 during the Heaton family's ownership. Around 1910 the Dear family, who had turned the farm into a dairy operation, added a larger Neo-Classical Revival section with a full-height portico, which moved the main entrance from the north to the west. A fieldstone meat house from the 1840 period survives on the 9.8-acre grounds. The Osburn family also helped support Ketoctin Baptist Church, and the house sat near a hamlet that developed at a crossroads on an early travel route. The house retains much of its historic stonework despite later remodeling.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Abner Osburn (builder of the original house)","architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal; Late 19th & 20th Century Revivals: Neo-Classical Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling with a guesthouse/pool house, garage/apartment, shed and stable; the current owners have rehabilitated parts of the interior.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:01.059681-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/71/6815/41681571/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/02001004.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001004/da0cabd051-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02001004/da0cabd051-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WOODGROVE,_ROUND_HILL,_LOUDOUN_COUNTY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41681571","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodgrove","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14713557"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/loudoun-county/woodgrove-02001004/"}
