Over decades the two buildings were joined, raised in height and given a common front. In 1936 the façade was remodeled in Art Deco style, with black and ivory structural glass chevrons, large metal-framed showroom windows, a recessed entrance and tan stucco above. The designer is unknown. The building was home to the Hall Furniture Company from 1892 to 1992, a business tracing its roots to 1868 and counted among the oldest and largest furniture firms in Texas. Earlier tenants included a saloon, a commercial college, a mineral water bottling works and a funeral parlor. Inside, wooden floors, lathe-turned columns and two freight lifts remain. It is recognized for its role in local commerce and as Sherman's finest Art Deco commercial building.","period_of_significance":"1936-1952","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Modern Movement: Art Deco","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition overall with a high degree of integrity; currently used as an antique mall.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.230467-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/9721/40972181/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/02000994.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000994/ff1b9945f2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000994/ff1b9945f2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Michael Barera","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sherman_July_2016_37_(Hall_Furniture_Co._Building).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Barera</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sherman_July_2016_37_(Hall_Furniture_Co._Building).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40972181","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q107321843"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/grayson-county/hall-furniture-building-02000994/"}
