Its 1920s Colonial Revival porch reflects later industrial-era prosperity. It also appears to be an example of canal-era worker housing.","narrative":"Built in 1846 on Lot 38 in the Pumroy plat of what is now the Village of Clinton, this modest wood-frame house sits one block north of Main Street and about 350 feet east of the Ohio & Erie Canal. It is a side-gabled New England One-and-a-Half in the Greek Revival style, with wide entablatures, cornice returns, corner boards, clapboard siding and a sandstone rubble foundation. Hand-hewn basement beams and original interior trim and doors survive. Between 1916 and 1927 a Colonial Revival wraparound porch and a rear kitchen wing were added. Early owners included a day laborer and a canal boatman, and the house appears to represent canal-era worker housing. It was listed for architecture because it is the most intact local example of its type, which reflects how the canal carried building traditions into Clinton. A 1960 garage on the lot does not contribute to the property's significance.","period_of_significance":"1846-1927","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival; Colonial Revival; New England One and a Half","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling; the form describes its historic integrity as well preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.072974-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/02000947.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000947/67a8ce9d51-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000947/67a8ce9d51-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PORTER-AUE_HOUSE,_CLINTON,_SUMMIT_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986236","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138697939"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/summit-county/porter-aue-house-02000947/"}
