It also represents the Scots-Irish immigration and settlement that shaped the county in the early and middle 1800s. Within Monroe Township it is described as the most intact known representative of that agricultural history.","narrative":"This 170-acre farm in Monroe Township, Harrison County, Ohio, was founded by Henry Law, whose family emigrated from County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1830. Law and his wife moved into the two-story main house in 1846. A rear wing was added about 1870. The property keeps 17 contributing buildings dating from 1846 to 1920, among them a summer kitchen, milk house, smokehouse, carriage barns, cattle and sheep barns, a granary and a 1920 bungalow built for the Reed family. The farm raised grain, cattle and Merino sheep, and in 1860 it was one of only three farms in the township valued above $10,000. Ownership passed through Law and Reed descendants, and the land is still worked. The nomination cites the farm's intact buildings and fields as a rare surviving picture of 19th century agriculture in a county where farming later declined because of soil depletion, strip mining and flooding. It also reflects Scots-Irish settlement.","period_of_significance":"1846-1920","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century; vernacular Greek Revival influences in the main house","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Still an active farm raising crops and shorthorn cattle; the sheep barn is no longer in active use, and one collapsed outbuilding is counted as noncontributing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.156333-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/02000882.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000882/c464909886-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000882/c464909886-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Bwsmith84 (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_Law_Farm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bwsmith84 (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_Law_Farm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989304","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Law_Farm_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5724714"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/harrison-county/law-henry-farm-historic-district-02000882/"}
