It is also significant for its role in band concerts, choral performances, political campaigns, weddings, festivals and informal socializing in a small rural county seat.","narrative":"Standing at the northeast corner of the courthouse square in downtown Cumming, Georgia, this octagonal wooden bandstand was built in 1915 by local contractor John Robbs. Private donations paid for it, and it was built for the Cumming Cornet Band, which played Sunday afternoon concerts on the square. The raised platform is about 18 feet across, with eight posts, perimeter benches and a pyramidal roof with exposed rafters. Over the years it also hosted choral performances, political campaigns, weddings, informal gatherings and the annual Fescue Festivals that celebrated local agriculture from 1948. It is listed because very few historic bandstands survive on Georgia courthouse squares, and this one keeps its polygonal form, open-air construction, benches, roof and nearly all original materials. Its role in the social and recreational life of a small rural county seat adds to its importance. The period of significance runs from 1915 to 1953.","period_of_significance":"1915-1953","architect_builder":"John Robbs (builder)","architectural_style":"Other: Bandstand","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still in use for outdoor recreation and as a music facility; the form notes in-kind replacement lattice and replacement concrete steps.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.445988-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/02000658.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208021","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumming_Bandstand","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q85754809"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/forsyth-county/cumming-bandstand-02000658/"}
