It has a side-gabled roof with cornice returns, a central front gable, turned porch posts, sawnwork brackets and a polygonal gazebo at the porch end. Around 1900 Reverend Plummer T. Hall, born into slavery in 1849, added a gable-front room as a pastoral office, reached from a separate exterior door. Hall was the first pastor of the congregation that became Oberlin Baptist Church, and the church building burned in 1955. This house is the only surviving building tied to the church's earliest years, 1880 to 1915. Churches served as centers of education, social life and civic activity for freedmen. A rear addition was built in 1996, and the house remains a home. It is locally significant for Social History and Black Ethnic Heritage.","period_of_significance":"c. 1880-1915","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Queen Anne","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Still used as a single-family dwelling; a rear addition was built in 1996, and the original outbuildings have been demolished.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:52.608413-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/87/7186/47718687/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/02000501.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000501/f41254a958-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000501/f41254a958-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rev._Plummer_T._Hall_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rev._Plummer_T._Hall_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47718687","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rev._Plummer_T._Hall_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20639174"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/wake-county/hall-rev-plummer-t-house-02000501/"}
