It includes the church with its parish hall addition, plus a 1883 rectory and a 1904 Old Parish Hall on a separate lot.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the church is significant under architecture as an early and possibly the earliest example of Richard Upjohn's simple rural English parish church type. It reflects the Gothic Revival influence of Anglican ecclesiological ideas, and the later additions of 1911 and 1950-54 were designed to be compatible with it.","narrative":"All Saints' Episcopal Church in Briarcliff Manor, New York, is a granite Gothic Revival church designed by Richard Upjohn and built between 1848 and 1854. It began as a simple rectangular nave with a steep slate roof, on land donated by the founder, Rev. John Ogilby. A transept and enlarged chancel were added in 1911, using stone from the estates of three parishioners, and a concrete block parish hall was added in 1950 and 1954. The interior has exposed rafters, scissor trusses, memorial stained glass, and a rose window by Frederick Wilson. A rectory from 1883 in the Stick Style and a 1904 fieldstone Arts and Crafts parish hall stand a quarter mile east. The property was listed for its architecture. It is presented as possibly the earliest example of Upjohn's rural English parish church type, designed soon after his Trinity Church in Manhattan and shaped by Anglican ideas about Gothic church design.","period_of_significance":"1848 - 1954","architect_builder":"Richard Upjohn (church, 1848-54); Old Parish Hall architect unknown, built largely by parish women under the rector's direction","architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century: Gothic Revival (Early English style); rectory is Stick Style; Old Parish Hall is Arts and Crafts","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in religious use; the pastor occupies the rectory, and the Old Parish Hall interior has deteriorated from roof leaks.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.545706-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/02000449.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000449/8d1a3b9b0d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000449/8d1a3b9b0d-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Ɱ","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AllSaintsBriarcliff2.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Ɱ</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AllSaintsBriarcliff2.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322939","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saints%27_Episcopal_Church_(Briarcliff_Manor,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4729562"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/westchester-county/all-saints-episcopal-church-02000449/"}
