Bronk and later home to Peter Henry Silvester.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it an excellent regional example of Federal style residential architecture that retains an outstanding degree of integrity. It is also tied to two prominent local families, the Bronks and the Silvesters, and recalls the early nineteenth century development of the river front village.","narrative":"Built in 1811 for John L. Bronk, this brick house at 188 Mansion Street sits in the center of Coxsackie, where roads from the Hudson River landings and the upper village met. It is a five by two bay, center hall plan dwelling on a stone foundation, with a low gable roof and tall parapeted end walls that hold four chimneys. The north entrance has a six panel door, sidelights, a fanlight and a Greek Revival porch with fluted Ionic columns, added around 1835. Inside, a curved center hall staircase and intact plaster moldings, mantels and doors survive. Bronk was a Town Supervisor and the son of Judge Leonard Bronk. After his death in 1835, his daughter Catherine and her husband Peter Henry Silvester took the house. Silvester was a lawyer who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1847 to 1851. The house is valued as an outstanding regional example of Federal architecture and as a local landmark.","period_of_significance":"1811-1882","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; a modern kitchen occupies the rear service wing and a non-contributing modern shed stands behind the house.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.952449-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/02000140.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000140/fe392440db-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/02000140/fe392440db-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"RobertDrake2015","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bronk-Silvestre_House_8-14-2016.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">RobertDrake2015</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bronk-Silvestre_House_8-14-2016.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317930","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronk-Silvester_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4974000"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/greene-county/bronk-silvester-house-02000140/"}
