The western two bays were built in 1921 and the eastern two bays were added in 1936.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the hall is an intact example of the traditional grange hall plan, with community space on the first floor and a meeting and ceremonial hall above. It is also noted as one of the early granges established in New York and one of only two surviving grange halls in Albany County. It reflects the area's agricultural and social history.","narrative":"Bethlehem Grange No. 137 is a two-story clapboard hall on Bridge Street in Becker's Corners, Albany County. Its western two bays date to 1921, when the building replaced an earlier grange hall destroyed by fire on New Year's Day 1920. In 1936 two more bays were added under a single hipped roof. The first floor holds a farm store, kitchen and dining area, while the second floor has a meeting hall with a stage and proscenium arch, along with an anteroom. This arrangement is known as the grange hall plan, also used by Masonic lodges. The local grange was organized in 1874 and acquired the present site in 1880. It is described as one of the early granges in New York and one of only two surviving grange halls in Albany County. The hall retains a high degree of integrity apart from kitchen alterations, and it is still used by an active grange.","period_of_significance":"1921-1936","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"No Style","criteria":[],"status_note":"The building remains in use by an active Grange with a membership of nearly 100; only the kitchen has been altered.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:52.866758-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/01001443.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001443/b8868bd39b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001443/b8868bd39b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"TrudiJ","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bethlehem_Grange_No._137,_New_York.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">TrudiJ</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bethlehem_Grange_No._137,_New_York.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75316171","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethlehem_Grange_No._137","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4898045"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/albany-county/bethlehem-grange-no-137-01001443/"}
