It displays a concave mansard roof with patterned slate shingles, a bracketed cornice and lavish moldings. It retains a high degree of integrity and is an important local landmark in one of the city's most prosperous mid-nineteenth century neighborhoods.","narrative":"Located at 110 Fair Street in Kingston, this large frame house began about 1850 as a Greek Revival home for a merchant-class owner, probably built by attorney Erastus Cooke. Around 1870 it was remodeled in the Second Empire style. The result is a two-and-one-half story dwelling under a concave mansard roof of patterned slate, with round-arched dormers, bracketed eaves, a full-width Victorian porch and a rear service wing. Inside, pressed metal ceilings, lincrusta wall coverings, a stained glass stair window, Greek Revival moldings and Italianate marble fireplace surrounds survive. In 1869 the property was sold to Heweitt Boice, who owned a bluestone and limestone quarry; stone from his quarry was used in the Brooklyn Bridge towers. The grounds keep a bluestone carriage mounting block dated 1850, a hitching post, carved plinths with iron planters, a bluestone walk and a carriage house. The house was recognized for its architecture and its well-preserved condition.","period_of_significance":"ca.1850-ca.1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Second Empire; Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling; the ca. 1870 carriage house is renovated and used for storage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:53.626579-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/01001388.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001388/f569993510-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001388/f569993510-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Boice_House,_Kingston,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Boice_House,_Kingston,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322548","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boice_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4938297"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/ulster-county/boice-house-01001388/"}
