The remodeling was supervised by the Pittsburgh firm George S. Orth & Brother and kept much of the original Federal detail. The house was one of the most stylish in the Lisbon region at both dates.","narrative":"Set on a rise above Beaver Creek on the north side of Lisbon, Ohio, this house was built in 1838 for Dr. Leonard Hanna from a contract and plans by Samuel Reynolds, a carpenter-builder from Salem. Its symmetrical five-bay front, Tuscan porch, corner pilasters and deep, finely cut frieze reflect late Federal design. In 1907 the Pittsburgh firm George S. Orth & Brother remodeled it in the Colonial Revival manner. The work added a slate gambrel roof with shed dormers, a glazed rear porch in place of the old kitchen wing, arched openings in the hall, high wainscoting, new fireplaces and period light fixtures. A red brick carriage house with a slate roof was added, and a front terrace was built, probably designed by Alexander Orth. Most of the 1838 first-floor plan survives. The property was recognized for its architecture, which shows both the original Federal craftsmanship and the later Colonial Revival remodeling.","period_of_significance":"1838-1907","architect_builder":"Samuel Reynolds, Carpenter-Builder, Salem, Ohio (1838); George S.
