It was designed by Willis Polk and George Alexander Wright and completed in 1907 for W.P. Fuller & Company.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is one of the best remaining examples of the brick warehouses that dominated the Embarcadero waterfront in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is typical of its period in material, form and use, yet rare for its high degree of integrity. It is also one of the few surviving works of the short-lived Wright and Polk partnership.","narrative":"Occupying a full city block at the base of Telegraph Hill, this 100,000-square-foot brick warehouse at 50 Green Street was built for W.P. Fuller & Company as a glass and mirror works. Construction began in 1906, was damaged by the earthquake and fire that year, and finished in the fall of 1907 using the earlier plans. Willis Polk and George Alexander Wright designed it. The load-bearing red brick walls, arched windows, corner quoins and corbeled parapet are typical of San Francisco warehouses of the period, and the exceptionally high first floor allowed rail cars to enter directly from the Belt Line. Later changes include a 1964 mezzanine, a 1970 lobby in the old drive-through, a recessed entrance on Battery Street in 1975 and seismic work in 1994. Listed for architecture, it is valued as a well-preserved example of an early twentieth-century brick warehouse, now used for offices, in a district of waterfront warehouses.","period_of_significance":"1907","architect_builder":"Polk, Willis; Wright, George Alexander","architectural_style":"Classical Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Retains a high degree of integrity; currently used for commerce/business and has tenant offices. Interior and some openings have been altered, and seismic strengthening was done in 1994.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:26.944046-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/01001101.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001101/b1f48ea677-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01001101/b1f48ea677-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Sanfranman59","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fuller_Company_Glass_Warehouse_(San_Francisco).JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanfranman59</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fuller_Company_Glass_Warehouse_(San_Francisco).JPG"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"06000372","name":"Port of San Francisco Embarcadero Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/california/port-of-san-francisco-embarcadero-historic-district-06000372/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123861122","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q133458464"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/san-francisco/fuller-company-glass-warehouse-01001101/"}
