It shows how Kuehne adapted a historic style to suit a client's needs, and it retains a high level of integrity with fine brick, woodwork and landscaping.","narrative":"Built in 1928 on a sloping, tree-covered lot beside Waller Creek in Austin's Stark Addition, this two-story Colonial Revival house was designed by local architect Hugo Franz Kuehne for Robert Alameth Cox. Buff brick walls, a pedimented entry porch with fluted wooden columns, dentil and modillion cornices, limestone window keystones and three dormers give the south facade a formal, symmetrical look. A two-story sleeping porch on the east side breaks that symmetry. Inside, the living room and library contain carefully detailed cabinetry and woodwork, and a carved mantel is assumed to be the work of woodcarver Peter Mansbendel. Terraces and a curving drive shape the landscaped grounds. Later owner Larry Craddock enclosed the piazza and converted the butler's pantry to a bath, the only notable interior change. The house was listed for its architecture, as an excellent local example of the Colonial Revival style and of Kuehne's approach to adapting historic styles for his clients.","period_of_significance":"1928","architect_builder":"Kuehne, Hugo Franz (architect)","architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; described as in need of some repair but with few alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.326106-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/26/9736/40973626/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/01000612.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000612/d10a4423f6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000612/d10a4423f6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"RayAYang","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cox-Craddock_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">RayAYang</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cox-Craddock_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40973626","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox%E2%80%93Craddock_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5179858"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/travis-county/cox-craddock-house-01000612/"}
