The cemetery, established c1800, is the hamlet's first and only burial ground and holds many founders. The church is a distinctive, intact, modest Romanesque-influenced design of the late nineteenth century.","narrative":"Roscoe Presbyterian Church and Westfield Flats Cemetery sit side by side on the south side of Old NY 17, just east of Stewart Avenue in the Sullivan County hamlet of Roscoe. The church, built in 1884, was the first house of worship for a congregation formed in 1842. It is a wood-frame building on a bluestone foundation, with round-arched openings, original stained glass and a center entrance tower and spire rising ninety-two feet. A cross-gabled wing was added in 1910 and later remodeled as a social room. The cemetery dates to about 1800 and holds roughly two hundred burials, nearly all before 1950. It is the only cemetery in Roscoe and contains the graves of town founders, veterans and early officeholders. Its markers range from simple granite slabs to ornate Victorian monuments. Together the two properties reflect the settlement and growth of the hamlet, and both remain in use.","period_of_significance":"c1800-1949","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian (exterior described as a modest interpretation of the Romanesque style)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Both the church and the cemetery are still in religious and funerary use.
