The farmhouse blends late Federal, Greek Revival, Egyptian Revival and Italianate details in a transitional rural vernacular design. The surrounding open fields, woods and Catskill views preserve the historic agricultural setting.","narrative":"Elmbrook Farm is a 51-acre farmstead on Brookview Road in Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York, with open fields, woodland and distant views toward the Catskill Mountains. Its main building is a two-story, five-bay, center-hall farmhouse thought to have been built about 1830 and altered about 1850. The house mixes late Federal interior trim, a Greek Revival entrance, Italianate brackets and Egyptian Revival porch columns, a combination typical of rural vernacular building at mid-century. Contributing outbuildings include a farm office from about 1800, an English barn from about 1790 moved to the site after the original barn burned around 1930, a corncrib, a milk shed and a garage. A small family burial plot also contributes. Land here was associated with the Lansing family from at least 1767 until 1871. The farm was listed for its architecture and for the intact setting that conveys its agricultural history, with a period of significance running to 1950.","period_of_significance":"c. 1767-1950","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Federal, Greek Revival, Exotic (Egyptian) Revival, Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The property is still used as a single dwelling with secondary structures, according to the form's current function entry.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:49.964638-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/01000551.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000551/b1b5bd74c9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000551/b1b5bd74c9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SchodackNY_ElmbrookFarm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SchodackNY_ElmbrookFarm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321220","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elmbrook_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5366439"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/rensselaer-county/elmbrook-farm-01000551/"}
