Its Romanesque-inspired design combines richly textured masonry outside with simple natural finishes inside. Built in 1914-15 to a cruciform plan, it was designed by Oscar John Heech, a draftsman who had spent years in the office of the Rochester firm Gordon & Madden. The exterior draws on Lombard Romanesque precedents, with herringbone brick panels, corbel tables, corbelled string courses and cast stone blocks and brackets. Inside, plaster walls, varnished oak woodwork and a semicircular seating plan with a gallery focus attention on the pulpit, reflecting Reformed worship traditions. The congregation grew from a Sunday school founded in 1873 and moved to this neighborhood in 1914. A 1952 education wing was added, and in 1971 the congregation merged with Trinity Presbyterian Church. The building is valued as an intact example of Arts & Crafts church design in Rochester's early twentieth century growth.","period_of_significance":"1914-1915","architect_builder":"O.J.
