It was built in 1913 to house the McCormick Manufacturing Company.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is significant under Criterion A for its part in the industrial development of Dayton's Webster Station area. Under Criterion C it is a variant of the Commercial style with a two-part facade division, and one of the last industrial buildings to use brick bearing walls to carry the upper floors.","narrative":"Built in 1913 at the southwest corner of East First and Sears Streets, this four-story brick building sits in the Webster Station area east of downtown Dayton, Ohio. It measures about 56 by 110 feet and has a raised concrete foundation, bearing brick walls with piers and recessed spandrels, and mostly 6/6 wooden windows. A limestone frontispiece marks the north entrance. It was designed for the McCormick Manufacturing Company, a maker of water heaters, sprayers and plumbing supplies founded by Francis J. McCormick. Later tenants included automotive research and accessory firms, the Gem City Machine Company, the Acme Carburetor Company and many small businesses. Its listing rests on its role in the area's industrial growth and on its design. Its facades use an uncommon two-part variation of the Commercial style, and it is among the last industrial buildings to rely on brick bearing walls to support upper floors. It is vacant today.","period_of_significance":"1913-1950","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements: Commercial","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"The form states the building is currently vacant, with some decay to interior wooden structural members from neglect and water infiltration.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:07.587439-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/01000050.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000050/6f09b19480-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/01000050/6f09b19480-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McCormickManufacturing.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McCormickManufacturing.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985939","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCormick_Manufacturing_Company_Building","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14716693"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/montgomery-county/mccormick-manufacturing-company-building-01000050/"}
